We support projects that work with people in ways that are deeply transformational, through which individuals can touch or return to their essential nature. We are interested in projects that create communities characterized by healing, creativity and authenticity, and which hold at the center an abiding respect for the oneness at the heart of life. We are particularly supportive of work with underserved communities.
Promoting a transformation within mainstream education, we support projects that recognize the need to nourish and prepare a young person’s spirit and heart, as well as mind and body, in order that the student’s true vision for his or her life can be nurtured. It is our belief that an education which nourishes the essence of the human being can best prepare our young people for life in a globally interconnected world where survival depends upon respect for all life.
Please see Representative Grants for examples of our funding in this area.

Wilderness Arts & Literacy Collaborative
WALC is an interdisciplinary, holistic two year environmental education program for high school students at San Francisco's Balboa and Downtown high schools. With field experiences as the heart of the program, the curriculum for all the academic disciplines is integrated around environmental concepts and stewardship activities. The field studies not only provide students with incredible inspiration for interdisciplinary learning, but importantly the skills to understand ecological principles as metaphors for dynamics in their own lives and communities. The practices of reflection, creativity and self expression are central to WALC, and the students and teachers come to know and support one another deeply on a personal as well as an academic level. The result is a community of students and teachers that stand as a model program for an environmental education that imbues young people formerly labeled “EDY” (educationally disadvantaged youth) with a deep sense of themselves, belonging, and connectedness to larger processes. |
