The Universe Story

Wednesday, March 18th – 9:30 - 11:00AM

Please join us for a very special presentation by scholar of religion Mary Evelyn Tucker and cosmologist Brian Swimme as they discuss the relevance for today's world of Thomas Berry's Universe Story and our current scientific theories about the Cosmos. We will also be viewing the trailer for their upcoming film, Journey of the Universe. This film reveals how the discoveries of contemporary scientific knowledge lead to a worldview that – like many ancient spiritual traditions – is rooted in a common human experience of awe and kinship. Science’s emerging understanding of the immensity, complexity, and self-organizing creativity of the universe engenders a life-altering sense of wonder and connection with the unfolding cosmic process in which we live.

Mary Evelyn Tucker is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Scholar at Yale University where she has appointments in the School of Forestry and Environmental Studies as well as the Divinity School and the Department of Religious Studies. She is a co-founder and co-director with John Grim of the Forum on Religion and Ecology and the author of Worldly Wonder: Religions Enter Their Ecological Phase and many other titles. >>

Brian Swimme is a mathematical cosmologist on the graduate faculty of the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He is the author of The Universe is a Green Dragon and The Universe Story, and the videos Canticle to the Cosmos and The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos. >>
