Letters of Inquiry

We invite letters of inquiry (LOI) from people whose work aligns with our vision. To apply for a grant from Kalliopeia Foundation, applicants must first send a letter of inquiry that includes the information listed below. Once the letter of inquiry has been reviewed by our Grants Committee and a decision has been made to further explore this funding request, we will invite you to submit a full proposal. Please see the Funding Guide section of our website for further information.

The Letter of Inquiry should include:

Organization & Contact Information

  • Name of organization, address, website
  • Contact person: Name, title, phone number, email address

Narrative (up to 3 pages)

  • Organization's mission and ongoing programs
  • Inspiration for the project that is the subject of this request
  • Description of the project and the need it serves
  • Leadership and staffing
  • Describe how the project is aligned with Kalliopeia Foundation's mission

Attachments

  • Copy of page one of the IRS 501(c)(3) tax-exempt letter for the organization or the project's fiscal sponsor
  • Current annual budget (and coming year's annual budget, if appropriate), including allocation of funding request from Kalliopeia Foundation
  • Previous year's Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activities
  • List of current year's committed and pending requests for funding for this project.
    (List all government, corporate, and foundation requests that you have applied for or will be applying for, including the amount requested.)

In addition to the mailed copy of your letter of inquiry, please e-mail an electronic copy of the letter and the attachments in Word or Excel, or as a PDF. After careful review, nonprofit organizations that align closely with Kalliopeia's mission and meet the evaluation criteria will be sent a letter requesting a full proposal.
